AirFiber, a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology that works on 4G/5G, is gaining traction in India, thanks to major players like Jio and Airtel. It promises high-speed internet without the need for traditional fiber cables, making it an attractive option for areas with limited wired infrastructure. But is it reliable?

Although term Air Fiber sounds like fiber like speeds but in reality it is just a stable wireless internet service that operates on regular 4G and 5G networks. Ranging from 25 Mb/s to 100 Mb/s, air fiber can give you a stable internet connectivity.

Jio AirFiber

Here stable means you’ll receive symmetrical speeds for downloads and uploads, which is not possible on mobile devices as antennas are smaller. That’s only advantage of air fiber over a MiFi device offered by same telecom.

Reliability of Jio AirFiber:

Jio’s AirFiber leverages its extensive 5G network to deliver speeds up to 1 Gbps. The service is designed for urban and semi-urban areas, ensuring a stable connection with low latency where fiber connectivity is not possible.

Its reliability is boosted by Jio’s robust infrastructure and widespread 5G coverage.

However, in areas with high network congestion, speeds might fluctuate slightly, but overall, Jio AirFiber has proven to be a dependable option for both home and business users. You can read my dedicated review here.

Reliability of Airtel Xstream AirFiber:

Airtel’s AirFiber service, branded as Xstream AirFiber, also rides on its 5G network, offering impressive speeds and coverage. Airtel has focused on optimizing its network to reduce downtime and enhance reliability.

The service is particularly effective in metro cities and towns where Airtel’s 5G signal strength is strong. But it has limited availability in rural towns.

With proactive customer support and consistent performance, Airtel Xstream AirFiber is seen as a reliable alternative to traditional broadband.

Conclusion.

Both Jio and Airtel AirFiber services are reliable, especially in areas with solid 5G coverage. For users seeking high-speed internet without the hassle of wired connections, AirFiber is a promising solution. However, checking local 5G coverage quality for either service is advisable before making a decision.
